Believe it or not, were our brains much faster conscious record of negative words. This is known after the University College London conducted a study involving 50 volunteers who were asked to look at the words in the computer screen.
Those words appeared in a few seconds. Then the participants were asked to remember and mention it. Lead researcher Professor Nilli Lavie told, the words that exist on the computer screen consisting of positive words, such as peaceful, happy, and flowers.
Among the positive words, then inserted the negative words, such as suicide, sadness, and irony. But not only positive words and negative there, Lavie also mentions neutral words in it, such as boxes, teapots, and ears.
When the process of choosing words, which participants were asked to classify positive words, negative, and neutral. The result, it turns out most of the words that classification accuracy is the negative words.
Lavie interest in doing this research actually began from so many speculations about the human ability to process emotional information unconsciously, for example, facial expressions and words.
"But from this research, we can understand that actually emotional values strong recorded in the subconscious 'recorder'. And the emotional value of the most easily recalled are negative messages," Lavie explained.
It also shows, basically how humans will react very quickly to emotional information. "So when we see someone carrying a knife when we're driving in the pouring rain, a quick message in the head are called DANGER," Lavie explained, mentioning that researchhas been published in the Emotion journal.
